Indian opener KL Rahul admitted that he was "surprised" to be announced as the "Player of the Match" over Suryakumar Yadav for the 2nd T20I in Guwahati on Sunday.

Rahul smashed his 2nd consecutive half-century and courtesy of his sumptuous strokeplay, he ensured that India made the most of the powerplay despite Rohit Sharma's slow goings.

However, it was Suryakumar Yadav, who once again stole the show with his elite intent and breathtaking strokeplay.

Here's what KL Rahul said:

''I'm surprised I'm getting the award but Surya made the bigger impact. Yeah, it was quite a difficult track to start. As an opener, it is important to know how the pitch would behave. You need to give your best. All about the mindset. I have tried to be positive, and I will continue this approach. Happy with the way I batted as it was a bit tough to start.''

Speaking on his own performance, Rahul was pleased to step up to the occasion on a surface that he described was 'tough to bat on' initially. He admitted that the way pitch played out in the end, it left him surprised as he and Rohit has initially thought that it was 185-190 score surface.

Rahul hammered 5 fours and 4 sixes to race his way to a 28-ball 57, and his body language and mindset tonight, was spot on.

Rahul signed off by stating that he intends to continue with the same mindset in the upcoming games and tournaments.
