On Friday, Melbourne Stars' Joe Clarke scored his first Big Bash League (BBL) century and remained unbeaten on 101 as the Stars posted a healthy 5-183 against Hobart Hurricanes.

In the process, he passed his previous best score of 85 with a massive six of Nathan Ellis and smoked another six of Ellis on the last over to reach the score of 99 and completed his ton on the next ball.

Clarke's innings was laced with nine fours and four sixes, and it was also the first ton of this BBL season.

Clarke was given a lifeline early in the innings, when Shadab Khan dropped him at short third when the batter made just one run. He made the Hurricanes pay dearly for dropping him as the batter belted them all around the park.

Coming to the game, Hurricanes opted to bowl first and the decision back-fired as the team from Melbourne took them to the cleaners. Clarke was well supported by Tom Rogers (20) and Beau Webster (24) as the Stars grabbed the opportunity with both hands
