Saurashtra's Jaydev Unadkat made a comeback into the Indian national Test team after 12 long years, taking the field against Bangladesh in the ongoing Test in Dhaka.

Unadkat, who played his only Test for India back in 2010, thus registered his name in the history books for India, bettering Dinesh Karthik's record.

The left-arm paceman now holds the record for the longest interval between two Test appearances, missing 118 matches after his red-ball debut. Notably, Karthik missed 87 Tests before making a comeback.

Overall, England's Gareth Batty holds the record for the longest interval between the first two Tests with 142.

Players with longest interval between two Tests

  • 142 - Gareth Batty (2005-16)
  • 118 - Jaydev Unadkat (2010-22)
  • 114 - Martin Bicknell (1993-2003)
  • 109 - Floyd Reiffer (1999-09)
  • 104 - Younis Ahmed (1969-87)

Unadkat provided India their first breakthrough of the match, dismissing Zakir Hasan for 15.

A domestic stalwart, Unadkat has captained his state side Saurashtra to the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy titles since taking over in 2018.
