The ongoing Boxing Day Test between Australia and South Africa has been a record-shattering one.

Day three of the second Test witnessed Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey notch up his maiden Test hundred in the second session of play.

With this, the left-handed batter also became the first Australian gloveman to hit a ton in a Boxing Day Test.

Carey also became only the second Australian keeper to register a red-ball hundred at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) after the legendary Rod Marsh. Marsh's hundred came against England in their only Test tour of Australia in 1977.

Interestingly, this is the first time since 2013 that an Australian keeper has scored a Test hundred.

Carey's innings came to an end on 111, as Marco Jansen took a simple caught and bowled chance.

The 31-year-old has played 13 Tests, 62 ODIs, and 38 T20Is for Australia since making his debut in 2018.

Australia declared their first innings on 575 for 8. As of writing, South Africa are 15 for one, trailing by  runs.
