The Sunrisers Eastern Cape notched up their first win of the ongoing SA20 2023 competition, beating MI Cape Town by four wickets last evening after suffering back-to-back losses.

Skipper Aiden Markram, who scored a match-winning 50, hailed youngster Tristan Stubbs's knock.

Chasing 159 to win, South Africa's newest team sensation Stubbs blitzed to an 18-ball 30, which enabled their side to win in the final over. Markram, who himself scored 50 off 35 balls, lauded the side while speaking to the Sunrisers' Twitter handle.

Interestingly, Stubbs plays for MI Cape Town's sister side Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

Here's what Stubbs said

"It's a big relief. Made a little tough for ourselves in the end. Wanted to be there at the end and get the job done, lot to learn and take away from this game personally. Credit to Stubbs for getting us towards the finish line. I was a bit nervous in the end, but certainly pleased."

Markram further stated that the margin of error in the competition is minimal and that his side needs to work on improving going forward.

Both sides will once again clash in their reverse encounter when the Sunrisers visit MI home base Newlands on Wednesday.
