In a significant development, Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided to introduce a six-month review clause for the centrally contracted players.

The fundamental purpose behind the decision is to ensure that none of the contracted players take their spot for granted and focus on justifying their selection. It follows the national selection panel's recommendation, which suggested the apex body to monitor the progress of the contracted players.

BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus has confirmed the introduction of the review clause to Bangladesh Cricket.

Here's what Yunus stated

"Yes, we will have a review of centrally contracted cricketers after every six months. From now onwards we want the boys to value the central contract and act accordingly,

"We have not yet decided whether we will scrap the contract if anyone is found performing below par but more than anything else this initiative is taken to make a competitive atmosphere among the cricketers getting the central contract."

Meanwhile, BCB's chief selector Minhajul Abedin clarified that the decision doesn't mean that the contract list will be amended every six months, citing its sole objective of ultimately motivating the players for improved performance.

"It (review after every six months) will make sure no one takes his place for granted but that does not imply that the central contract list will be changed after every six months,

"Rather this initiative is likely to keep everyone on their toes considering they will be aware that the fingers will be pointed at them if they fail to deliver and come up with a below-par performance for a period of six months."
