Pakistan's most recent Test mainstay, Abdullah Shafique, received a T20I call-up for the T20I series against Afghanistan after an impressive Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023. Shafique, playing his fifth T20I, registered his fourth duck in a row, with his latest outing in the second match against Afghanistan ending in a golden duck.
With this, Shafique became the only batter to score back-to-back four ducks in T20Is.
The young batter also scored a duck in the first T20I and got out on ducks in both his matches against New Zealand back in 2020. Shafique scored an unbeaten 41 on his T20I debut against Zimbabwe.
The 23-year-old scored 268 runs for Lahore Qalandars in the PSL 2023, including a match-winning 65 in the tournament final against Multan Sultans.
Interestingly, it was only last week that No.1 ranked T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav scored three consecutive golden ducks for India during their ODI series against Australia.
Overall, the Sialkot-born has played 12 Tests, one ODI, and five T20Is for Pakistan, amassing 1,035 runs combined.
Regarding the ongoing T20I series, hosts Afghanistan have gained an unassailable 2-0 lead over the visiting Pakistan side.
The third and final match will be played today, where both Pakistan and Shafique will look to overturn their fortunes.
