In a massive setback for New Zealand, Trent Boult could miss the upcoming home Test series against England due to his commitment to the International League T20.
Boult, who earlier turned down the national contract to explore opportunities in global T20 leagues, will represent MI Emirates in the ILT20, whose final is scheduled for February 12.
So, if Boult plays the entire tournament, he could miss the Test series against England starting February 16.
The Blackcaps head coach Gary Stead has hinted at Boult not featuring at least in the first Test of the series.
Here's what Stead stated
"No, I wouldn't have thought so. I mean Trent and I have had discussions and I think his return from the UAE would only be a day or two immediately prior to that [start of England Tests]. I think from a workload perspective that's out of the picture."
Notably, New Zealand are currently facing a crisis in their fast-bowling resources. While Kyle Jamieson has been out of action since June due to a back injury, Adam Milne and Matt Henry suffer from a side and an abdominal strain, respectively.
Therefore, Boult's absence will further weaken their pace battery, led by two veterans, Tim Southee and Neil Wagner.
