Veteran Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins has blown hot and cold in the ongoing T20 World Cup. After going wicketless in the opening game against New Zealand, Cummins bowled at an economy of 13 in the death overs against Sri Lanka. Overall, the Australian Test skipper has managed only one wicket at an ordinary economy rate of 10.25 in the tournament.

Considering Cummins' poor form, legendary former Australia opener Mark Waugh questioned his place in the team for the crucial clash against England. Waugh even reckoned that replacing Cummins by Cameron Green might work wonders for the hosts.

Ex-New Zealand pacer Simon Doull also suggested Australia to draft Kane Richardson in place of Cummins to ensure variety in their pace attack versus England.

However, Australia captain Aaron Finch has fired back at Waugh and Doull, backing Cummins amidst the criticism. Highlighting Cummins' outstanding performance in T20s in recent times, Finch addressed him as a vital cog in the team for the plethora of experience he brings into the table.

Here's what Finch stated

"His [Cummins] numbers over the last 18 months have been outstanding in T20 cricket,' Finch said on Friday.

"It blows my mind sometimes where people go with selection chat. He's been unbelievable over all three formats for a long time and the calmness and experience that he brings to a bowling group is invaluable."

Currently, Australia are languishing at the bottom of the Group 1 points table with two points. They will face arch-rivals England in their third Super 12 encounter in Melbourne on Friday.
