In a significant turn of events, Cricket Australia has announced Pat Cummins as the captain of the ODI team. With this, the star pacer becomes Australia's 27th ODI captain.

The position was vacant after the veteran opener and former captain Aaron Finch retired from ODI cricket. Many names, including those of David Warner and Steven Smith, were suggested for the successor. But as it seems, Cricket Australia trusts Cummins more as a leader after what he has done in Test cricket.

Since debuting in 2011, Cummins has established himself as a vital cog in the Australian bowling lineup. Shouldering the seam bowling responsibilities alongside Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, the 29-year-old has scalped 119 wickets in 73 ODI outings, including four four-fors and one fiver-for.

Notably, Australia's upcoming home series against arch-rivals England in November will be Cummins' first assignment as the ODI captain. With all his ability and experience as a leader, we expect the veteran seamer to take Australia to new heights in ODI cricket.
