The Kolkata Knight Riders have signed New Zealand pacer Tim Southee for the remainder of IPL 2021 that will be held in the UAE. The tournament was earlier suspended on May 4 after there was a Covid-19 outburst within the franchises.

An experienced customer especially in the T20 format, Southee has been in some fine form for New Zealand in the recent past. He was among the wickets against Bangladesh and Australia at home.

The right-arm bowler has been capped 83 times in the T20Is and has 99 scalps to his name. The New Zealand cricketer has been a part of CSK, RCB, RR and MI setup and has featured in 40 IPL games where he has scalped 28 wickets.

KKR would be without the services of Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins who has made himself unavailable for the remaining matches of the IPL citing personal reasons. The IPL 2021 will resume in the UAE on September 19 when Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will be up against each other.

KKR who are presently placed at number seven in the points table with only two wins from seven matches under their belt will play Royal Challengers Bangalore on September 20 in Dubai to begin the second phase of the tournament.
