In a significant development, the BCCI selection committee has named a formidable 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023. The team, led by Rohit Sharma, is a brilliant amalgamation of experience and youth.
Initially, there was some confusion regarding Shubman Gill’s selection for the marquee event, as the broadcasters left him out. However, it was later clarified that the opener has been picked in the 17-member squad, that also includes Sanju Samson as a traveling eighteenth member.
India’s batting looks formidable, studded with Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul alongside openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.
The batting order is filled with dynamism with the presence of flamboyant stroke players like Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan.
Talking about the all-rounder’s department, India have covered all bases, including Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja along with Hardik Pandya, set to play Rohit Sharma’s deputy in the tournament.
Meanwhile, the bowling unit has strengthened with the return of Jasprit Bumrah, currently leading the team in the Ireland T20Is. The squad also sees the inclusion of Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna alongside Bumrah, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj, with Kuldeep Yadav set to spearhead the spin attack with Jadeja and Axar.
