In a turn of events, India's standby opener, Ruturaj Gaikwad, will not be able to participate in the highly anticipated World Test Championship (WTC) Final due to his impending marriage.

The 26-year-old, originally added as a backup opener by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), informed them that he would be unable to join the squad in London before June 5, as his wedding is scheduled for June 3-4. Promptly responding to the circumstances, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid sought a suitable substitute.

According to a report by The Indian Express, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been called upon to fill the void left by Gaikwad. The 21-year-old left-handed batter, who recently impressed with his exceptional performances during IPL 2023, amassing an impressive 625 runs in just 14 matches for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), including a stunning century, will be joining the Indian team in London soon.

"He (Jaiswal) will be joining the Indian team as Gaikwad has informed us that he won’t be able to fly due to his marriage. He would be able to join the team post-June 5. (But) Coach Rahul Dravid took a call, asking the selectors to pick a replacement. So, Jaiswal will now fly to London soon," confirmed a BCCI official as quoted by The Indian Express.

Despite the impending arrival of Jaiswal, the team management has reportedly advised the talented opening batter to begin practising with the red ball, as he already possesses a UK visa.

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma are scheduled to depart for London on May 28, while Mohammed Shami, Shubman Gill, and Ravindra Jadeja, who are set to compete in the IPL 2023 final on Sunday, are expected to join the Indian squad on May 30.

With members of the Indian team who have already arrived in London to commence their training, the focus now intensifies on the highly anticipated clash against Australia in the WTC Final, which is set to commence on June 7 at The Oval
