Brief Scores: Gujarat Titans: 233/3 (20 overs) [Shubman Gill: 129 (60), Sai Sudharsan: 43 (31); Chris Jordan 4/56 (4), Piyush Chawla 3/45 (3)] beat Mumbai Indians: Mumbai Indians: 171/10 (18.2 overs) [Suryakumar Yadav: 61 (38), Tilak Varma: 43 (14); Mohit Sharma 5/10 (2.2), Rashid Khan 4/33 (2)] by 62 runs.

Gujarat Titans rode on Shubman Gill's century masterclass and their bowlers' brilliance to decimate Mumbai Indians by 62 runs on Friday, May 26. With this emphatic victory, they secured a place in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, joining Chennai Super Kings.

The five-time champions were nowhere in the chase as they consistently lost wickets from the beginning and were bundled out for 171 runs in 18.2 overs.

How the Mumbai Innings panned out?

The absence of Ishan Kishan, who couldn't bat due to an injury, further exacerbated their challenges.

There was a glimmer of hope when Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav appeared to be stabilizing the game for Mumbai Indians, playing a potential deep innings.

However, the match demanded more than just the efforts of two batters, as others failed to rise to the occasion, leading to a constant flurry of wickets.

Overall, their chase could be summarised by a fact that among the eleven players, only Suryakumar Yadav (61), Tilak Varma (43), and Cameron Green (30) managed to register scores in double digits.

With the ball, the match belonged to Gujarat Titans' Mohit Sharma, who emerged as the hero with a sensational five-wicket haul in just 2.2 overs.

Shubman Gill’s century set the game for Gujarat

Earlier, in an ‘out of the world’ display of power-hitting, Shubman Gill dismantled the Mumbai Indians' bowling attack, nullifying any advantage they might have had from winning the toss.

Gill unleashed an onslaught from the word-go, relentlessly punishing the Mumbai bowlers throughout the innings. His exceptional display of batting prowess saw him rack up 129 runs off just 60 balls, guiding his team to a colossal total of 233 runs for the loss of three wickets by the end of the 20 over.

Besides Gill, captain Hardik Pandya and Sai Sudharsan made notable contributions with the bat. While Pandya played a quickfire knock of 28 runs off just 13 deliveries, Sudharsan scored a solid 43 runs off 31 balls before being retired hurt.

Mumbai Indians' bowlers had a day to forget, with only Jason Behrendorff and Kumar Kartikeya maintaining an economy rate below 10. Akash Madhwal, the hero of the last match, Chris Jordan, and Piyush Chawla were at the receiving end as the Gujarat batters took them to the cleaners.

Gujarat Titans will now lock horns with Chennai Super Kings in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium as they aim to defend their title, having emerged as champions last year
