Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has expressed his opinion on Mumbai Indians' (MI) selection choices in the eagerly anticipated Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans (GT). Chopra, renowned for his analytical insights, believes that Riley Meredith should be given the nod over Chris Jordan for this crucial encounter that is set to take place on Friday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Jordan's performance in the ongoing season has been underwhelming, to say the least. With a mere three wickets to his name, the Englishman has struggled to contain the opposition batters, conceding runs at an economy of 10.06 in the five matches he has featured in.

While previewing the match on his YouTube channel, Chopra acknowledged the existing concerns in Mumbai Indians' bowling department but stated that they are coping with the situation.

"There is no doubt that there are problems in bowling but they are managing. They are continuing to play Chris Jordan. I am saying Riley Meredith will be a better option, play him but Chris Jordan is playing," said Chopra.

He further emphasized the significance of Jason Behrendorff's contribution with the new ball in the second innings, projecting him to be an invaluable asset. Additionally, Chopra commended the impressive performances of Akash Madhwal, who has been consistently delivering noteworthy performances.

"I feel Jason Behrendorff will be extremely valuable with the new ball in the second innings. Akash Madhwal is doing an amazing job in any case," added the former opener.

However, he did stress that Piyush Chawla, the team's highest wicket-taker in IPL 2023 with 21 scalps, would face substantial pressure to replicate his prior successes against the Gujarat Titans during the league phase.

"Piyush Chawla picked up two wickets both times he played against this team. There will be pressure on him as well," concluded Chopra.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians' bowling arsenal, spearheaded by Jason Behrendorff, Madhwal, and Chawla, will be crucial in containing the formidable batting lineup of the Gujarat Titans.

As the high-stakes encounter draws near, all eyes will be on the Mumbai Indians as they contemplate the selection dilemma between Riley Meredith and Chris Jordan.
