In the Eliminator match of the IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians (MI) faced Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and emerged victorious by a significant margin of 81 runs. This win secured their spot in the Qualifier 2 of the tournament. The standout performer for MI in the match was Akash Madhwal, a young pacer who delivered an exceptional performance. Madhwal picked up a remarkable five-wicket haul, conceding a mere five runs in 3.3 overs.

Madhwal's outstanding display earned him praise from the legendary India spinner and former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper, Anil Kumble. Interestingly, Madhwal's achievement of taking five wickets while conceding only five runs equals Kumble's record from the 2009 edition of the IPL. Kumble had also claimed 5/5 in 3.1 overs during a match between RCB and Rajasthan Royals (RR). This impressive feat by Madhwal now stands as one of the most economical five-wicket hauls in the history of the IPL.

Anil Kumble expressed his congratulations to Akash Madhwal for his remarkable achievement on Twitter. Kumble not only praised Madhwal's extraordinary performance but also extended a warm welcome to him, acknowledging his entry into the exclusive club of bowlers who have achieved the feat of taking five wickets by conceding just five runs (5/5).

In addition to Anil Kumble, former India opener Virender Sehwag also showered praises on Akash Madhwal for his outstanding performance in the match. Sehwag, known for his aggressive batting style, lauded Madhwal's remarkable display and acknowledged the significance of his achievement. Sehwag's appreciation further highlights the widespread recognition and acclaim that Madhwal received for his exceptional bowling performance.

Following their victory, Mumbai Indians (MI) have advanced to the Qualifier 2 stage of the IPL 2023. In this upcoming match, they will face off against the defending champions, Gujarat Titans (GT), at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 26th.
