Just In | Final Call on Asia Cup Venue To Be Taken After the IPL Final
Asia Cup venue yet to be decided [Twitter]
Asia Cup 2023 is fast approaching and the venue for the event is yet to be decided. However, it has come to light that a final decision on the Asia Cup venue will be taken during the IPL 2023 final on May 28.
The top associates from the Asian Cricket Council will attend the final and a decision regarding the venue will be taken there, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah stated on Thursday.
Here's what Jay Shah said:
"As of now, the decision with regards to hosting of Asia Cup hasn't yet been finalised. We are busy with IPL but the top dignitaries of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Bangladesh and Afghanistan Cricket Board are coming to watch the IPL final. We will have a discussion and take a final decision in due course," Jay Shah told PTI.
PCB Chairman, Najam Sethi recently presented the 'hybrid model' to host the Asia Cup, wherein four matches are supposed to be played in Pakistan (the host country) and India will play all their matches at the neutral venue.
However, as per a recent report circulated by a well-known journalist in Pakistan, Farid Khan, not only does Pakistan wants to host the four league stage matches, but also the Super 4 matches between the winners of Group B too.
Two out of Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will qualify for Super 12 and Pakistan wants to host that match as well.
The representatives from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will also attend the IPL final, and if they agree to the new PCB proposal, then Pakistan could end up hosting more than four matches.
