The star performer for Mumbai Indians (MI) during their clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Eliminator at Chepauk, Akash Madhwal scripted history with figures of 5/5, recording the best bowling figures of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and moreover, best by an uncapped pacer in league's history.

Madhwal is currently the skipper of his stateside Uttarakhand, but the journey hasn't been an easy one as the right-armer started his red-ball cricket journey at the age of 24. Currently 29, he came in as an injury replacement for Suryakumar Yadav last season and was retained ahead of this edition for his base price of ₹20 Lakhs.

Surprisingly Madhwal hails from Roorkee, the same place where Rishabh Pant comes from and as a matter of fact they don't even reside far. In fact, Pant is Akash's next-door neighbour and their homes are pretty much opposite to each other.

He was an engineering student who played tennis ball cricket that too as a hobby and even there too, he was considered one of the fiercest pacers.

Akash came in at a crucial time for Mumbai this season as they were already struggling with the absence of their world-renowned pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer.

Now, with his accuracy and pace, death bowling becomes an important aspect as Mumbai would look to utilise his skills in the upcoming games.

MI's next fixture would be against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Qualifier 2 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
