The Eliminator match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will be played between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday, May 24 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk.

Lucknow Super Giants' season has been a whirlwind, yet they have qualified for the play-offs with 17 points from the league stage games, courtesy of eight wins, five losses, and an abandoned game. Now heading into the must-win eliminator game, they are riding high on three consecutive wins in the last three games and are eager to sustain their winning momentum.

As for the Mumbai Indians, their journey to the play-offs has been heavily influenced by destiny and fate. On the final day of the tournament’s league stage matches, they registered a thumping eight wickets victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad and had to rely on the result of the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans. It was only when RCB suffered a loss that Mumbai's passage to the play-offs was paved.

The stakes are incredibly high for both teams in this must-win encounter. A defeat here means immediate elimination from the race to the IPL title, whereas the winning team will have the opportunity to challenge the losing side of Qualifier 1. But before we get swept up in the excitement of the game, let's take a closer look at the key matchups:

Rohit Sharma vs Amit Mishra

Spanning from 2008 and continuing into 2023, an exhilarating duel has raged on between two cricketing stalwarts, Rohit Sharma and Amit Mishra and there’s no denying that the scales have tipped in favour of the experienced spinner so far.

The captain of Mumbai Indians has found himself at the mercy of the seasoned spinner, succumbing to Mishra's guile and precision on seven occasions in T20s thus far, leaving the star batter with a paltry average of just 12 runs against him.

Quinton de Kock vs Chris Jordan

One of the most exciting contests in this match will unfold between Quinton de Kock, and Chris Jordan, where the latter has had the upper hand so far, dismissing the South African batter four times in T20s. Nonetheless, de Kock hasn't been one to stay silent either, responding emphatically by smashing 59 runs while facing a mere 41 deliveries off the English pacer.

Suryakumar Yadav vs Ravi Bishnoi

Suryakumar Yadav might be the number one batter in the world currently, but there is one bowler who has consistently subdued him in T20 matches—the star spinner from the Super Giants, Ravi Bishnoi. The leg spinner has dismissed Suryakumar Yadav a total of three times, leaving the star batter struggling with just 29 runs from 25 deliveries against him.

Another spinner who poses a threat to Rohit Sharma is Ravi Bishnoi, the apprentice of Amit Mishra. The young leg spinner recently got the better of Sharma in the last match against the Super Giants in Lucknow, potentially becoming a game-changer and tilting the match in his team's favour.

When it comes to the numbers, the Mumbai opener has fallen victim to Ravi Bishnoi's bowling prowess twice on four occasions in T20s so far. His struggles against Bishnoi are evident as he has mustered a mere 34 runs from 31 deliveries faced against the spinner.

Marcus Stoinis vs Chris Jordan

Mumbai Indians would think twice about unleashing Chris Jordan against the hard-hitting Australian, Marcus Stoinis. Often hailed as 'The Hulk,' Stoinis has amassed 116 runs against Jordan, having faced only 42 deliveries from him in T20s so far, without being dismissed even once.

Even in their recent encounter between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants, Marcus Stoinis single-handedly took on Chris Jordan and completely shifted the momentum in favor of Lucknow Super Giants.
