Pakistan speedster Naseem Shah has been roped in by Leicestershire Cricket County Club (LCCC) for a short-stint in the ongoing T20 Blast 2023. Shah comes in as cover for Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, who is playing in the playoffs for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

Shah, 20, made his T20I debut for Pakistan in Asia Cup 2022 and gained instant fame with his performances, which saw him spearhead the bowling attack in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 as well.

In 19 T20Is, Shah has picked up 15 wickets, while in 76 T20s, the fast-bowler has claimed 73 scalps. Shah has already played for Gloucestershire in T20 Blast 2022, Walsh Fire in The Hundred, Comilla Victoria in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and Quetta Gladiators in Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Shah sounded excited about joining the Foxes, while Claude Henderson Director of Cricket, welcomed the new recruit with open arms.

Here's what Shah said

"I’m very excited to be joining the Foxes for the start of the Vitality Blast. I can’t wait to meet my teammates and help win games for Leicestershire."

Here's what Henderson said

"Having Naveen in the IPL playoffs meant we had to make a quick call and we are extremely excited to have secured someone of Naseem’s calibre. He’s proven to be a world-class performer in T20 cricket, and we look forward to seeing him in a Leicestershire shirt shortly."

Shah will land in London this evening and will group up with his teammates ahead of the encounter against Lancashire on Thursday.

Shah has also signed up with Colombo Strikers for the upcoming edition of Lanka Premier League (LPL).
