Defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) lock horns with four-time title winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a mouth-watering Qualifier 1 clash of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The exciting encounter is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai at 7.30 PM IST. The Titans defeated the Super Kings when both sides met on the opening day of the current campaign in Ahmedabad. However, before the match goes live, here is a look at the GT vs CSK head-to-head record.

It's been another solid campaign for Hardik Pandya and his side, as they played 14 league matches with ten victories and just four defeats. With 20 points, the Titans topped the table like last year with the same number of wins and losses.

GT came up against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the last game of the league phase in Bangalore, where youngster Shubman Gill broke the hearts of the Bangalore fans.

Skipper Pandya won the toss and opted to field first with the weather around. The home side was treated with yet another special show from Virat Kohli as he registered back-to-back centuries. The right-handed batter slammed an unbeaten 101 off just 61, which included 13 fours and maximums. 

With his 7th century, Kohli broke Chris Gayle's record of six hundred in the cash-rich league. Captain Faf du Plessis and Michael Bracewell scored 28 and 26 runs, respectively, while Anuj Rawat amassed 23 as RCB posted a massive total of 197/5 on the board. Spinner Noor Ahmad was the pick of the GT bowlers for his spell of 2/39 (4).

In reply, Gill grabbed all the limelight with his terrific batting display. He got support from Vijay Shankar, who scored 53 off 35 with seven fours and two sixes.

 But the evening was about the future Indian star Gill who also recorded his second ton in as many games. He remained not out on 104 off just 52 with five fours and eight maximums as the visitors completed the chase with the loss of 4 wickets and five balls to spare. 

Gill was adjudged with the Player of the Match award for his scintillating ton. With this, RCB crashed out of the tournament as their wait for the elusive title stretched to another season.


CSK in IPL 2023

The second-most successful side in the competition, CSK, have been consistent yet again this season. The Chennai-based franchise made it to the Playoffs for the record 12th time in 14 seasons. With eight victories, five losses, and a net run rate of +0.652, they ended up with 17 points and second place behind GT.

CSK Last Match in IPL 2023

The Super Kings played their last game against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match No. 67 in Delhi, where the Men in Yellow thrashed the home side by a significant margin of 77 runs.

Skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first in the afternoon game. Openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway laid the foundation for a big total as they shared 141 runs for the opening wicket. The former scored 79 off 50 while New Zealander Conway struck 87 off 52. Courtesy of the duo, the visitors reached a massive total of 223/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, DC captain David Warner led his side from the front and played a lone hand of 86 off 58 with seven fours and five maximums. However, the rest of the batting line-up failed miserably as the hosts reached only 146/9 in 20 overs.

 Seamer Deepak Chahar was the pick of the CSK bowlers for his spell of 3/22 (4). For his half-century right at the top of the order and two catches, Gaikwad won the Player of the Match award.

As mentioned above, both sides clashed against each other on the opening night of the current edition in Ahmedabad, where the home side sealed the deal by a margin of 5 wickets.

Hardik won the toss and elected to bowl first. Opener Gaikwad looked in solid touch as he slammed 92 off just 50 with four fours and nine sixes. A few cameos from other players meant CSK could reach 178/7 in their allotted 20 overs. For GT, Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan and Alzarri Joseph picked up two wickets each.

Chasing 179, wicketkeeper batter Wriddhiman Saha scored 25 off 16, while his opening partner Gill struck 63 off just 36. Vijay Shankar mustered 27 off 21 while Rahul Tewatia remained unbeaten on 15 off 14 as the hosts reached the target with four balls to spare to defeat CSK for the third time in the league. For scoring an unbeaten ten off just three and bowling a spell of 2/26 (4), spin wizard Rashid won the Player of the Match award.
