The big update on Asia Cup 2023 might be just around the corner as the choice of venue has been a hot topic of discussion among the major boards in the Indian subcontinent. With Pakistan being the designated host, they have presented the hybrid model for the multilateral tournament where some matches will be played at home while others involving India would be shifted to a neutral venue.

However, the idea didn't sit well with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) as they all have voted against the plan. Now, the SLC president Shammi Silva who got elected for his third term today gave some news regarding the status of the venue.

Silva not just mentioned about the Asia Cup but also revealed that he has been invited to attend the Indian Premier League (IPL) Playoffs which is set to be played from 23rd May. Adding to this, he said that the conversation over Asia Cup will happen so the details could be out soon.

"We have been invited to witness IPL Play-Offs in India and during that trip, there will be discussions on the Asia Cup 2023. Nothing has been decided yet. But I think the fate of Asia Cup 2023 will be decided over the next week or so."

Asia Cup is scheduled for the September window before the World Cup and will be held in the 50-over format.

The Asian Cricket Council is likely to decide within a few weeks on what could be the possible venue for the event.
