'If You See The Teams That Succeed...,' Faf du Plessis Explains Where RCB Lacked

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis bore a dejected look on his face at the post-match presentation a masterclass from Shubman Gill's overpowered Virat Kohli's mastery to eliminate his team from IPL 2023.

The target of 198 was always going to be tough to defend for an underwhelming bowling unit like RCB, and the presence of dew made it even tougher against a rampaging Shubman Gill, who emulated his idol, Kohli, to smash consecutive IPL hundreds to lead his side to victory.

Faf pointed towards the dew factor in the post-match presentation, but he took nothing away from Shubman, who was just majestic on the night.

Faf was also full of praise for his partner-in-crime, Kohli, who once again turned on Virat mode when it was needed, and carved a masterclass to guide RCB to a defendable total single handedly.

The RCB skipper also pinpointed towards a couple of areas where he felt his side well short this season, and those were, 1) lack of flourish with the bat at the death 2) lack of wickets in the middle phase.

Here's what Faf du Plessis said:

"Very disappointed. We played a really strong team tonight, an amazing hundred from Shubman. It was really wet in the second innings. It was wet in the first innings as well, but there wasn't a lot of grip in the second innings and also we had to change the ball quite a few times during the second innings. Virat played an unbelievable knock to give us a chance and thought that was a good score, but Shubman played incredibly well to take the game away from us. From a batting perspective, the top 4 contributed really well,"

"We missed a few runs from the middle order consistently throughout the season, especially in the back end of the innings, and also in the middle overs perhaps didn't get as many wickets as we would have liked. He (Kohli) played really good cricket throughout the season and as a partnership probably not a single game where we had anything under 40 as an opening combination. We need to improve well on finishing games especially in the back end. Last year DK had a purple patch and was finishing games left, right and centre, but this season it wasn't to be. And if you see the teams that succeed they have some good hitters at five at six probably six and seven."

Thanks to this defeat, RCB will not play in a playoff fixture for the first time since 2019. They end their campaign at the 6th spot in the points table.
