Royal Challengers Bangalore: 197-5 in 20 Overs [Virat Kohli 101 (61), Faf du Plessis 28 (19); Noor Ahmad 2/39 (4)] lose to Gujarat Titans: 198-4 in 19.1 Overs [Shubman Gill 104 (52), Vijay Shankar 53 (35); Mohammed Siraj 2/32 (4)] by 6 wickets.

Kohli's Consecutive Double Ton Takes RCB to 197

Starting the innings off well against the Gujarat Titans (GT), Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) openers came with the clear intention of going after everything that was in their arc as they found boundaries regularly after the second over.

Skipper Faf du Plessis smashed Mohd Shami for four fours in the third over whereas last match's century-maker Virat Kohli smashed Yash Dayal for three consecutive fours in the fourth.

The onslaught continued till the first ball of the eighth over until du Plessis fell to Noor Ahmed with a lucky wicket as the ball bounced off the keeper's pads and caught at slip after it took the bat's edge.

In came Glenn Maxwell, who smashed a six and a four but couldn't last long, losing his stumps to Rashid Khan with an outstanding googly. Mahipal Lomror came in and in no time went back after getting stumped on a wide.

Michael Bracewell played a fine hand 16-ball 26 whereas Kohli, on the other end, kept rotating the strike to reach his half-century in the 12th over.

After Bracewell's departure, Dinesh Karthik lost his wicket on the very first delivery, putting RCB in a spot of bother with 133 on the board with five wickets.

However, after that, it was one man's show with Kohli finding boundaries here and there to record his consecutive second ton. With some support from Anuj Rawat in the end, RCB finished their innings on 197.

Noor Ahmed bagged two wickets while others chipped in with one each.

Shubman Gill too good for RCB

Chasing 198 for victory, Gujarat's duo of Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill took charge for them but the former fell by the end of the third over for just 12. However, Gill didn't let his guard down as he continued to fight against a decent RCB bowling attack.

Joined in the middle by Vijay Shankar, both of them demolished the bowlers as they struck boundaries on a regular basis. Shankar found seven fours along two sixes to record his half-century as in the end, he scored 53 from 35 deliveries displaying his quality.

The next two wickets fell in no time with Dasun Shanaka and David Miller being the victims of RCB pacers as the score was 171 after 17.4 overs.

But the superhero Shubman took the responsibility to finish the game in what was turning out to be an intense thriller with RCB's qualification at stake.

Gill only took 52 balls to register his second ton of the season and his IPL career, thus ending the game with a six where he thwacked eight maximums in total with five fours.

The loss ended RCB's playoff push and therefore, Mumbai Indians became the fourth team to qualify for the business end of the tournament.
