Kolkata Knight Riders will host the Lucknow SuperGiants in a crucial IPL 2023 encounter at the Eden Gardens on Saturday, May 20.

This is a very crucial game for both sides, especially for the SuperGiants, who are currently at the 3rd spot in the points table with 15 points.

Kolkata has been marred with inclement weather in the lead-up to the game. The city has been lashed with heavy rain in the past few days, which has created doubt among fans as to whether the game will take place on Saturday or not.

At the time of writing this report, the weather was bright and sunny in Kolkata, but in case, the heavens open up during the night, hosts KKR will get knocked out of the competition.

LSG, meanwhile, will earn 1 crucial point to take their tally to 16, and will virtually qualify for the playoffs owing to their superior run-rate viz-a-viz teams like RCB and MI.

Speaking of RCB, the Faf du Plessis-led unit is currently at the 4th spot with 14 points. Their final match is against the Gujarat Titans in Bangalore on Sunday evening.

However, more than Kolkata, it is Bangalore, where the threat of a washout is looking immense considering the massive downpour in the city on Saturday.

As per the weather department, there are 60% chances of thunderstorms in Bangalore on Sunday, and in case, the game gets washed out, then RCB will end up with 15 points.

This means that the Mumbai Indians, who will be playing their final league match against the SunRisers Hyderabad earlier in the day, will have to ensure that they end up claiming the two crucial points at all cost.

A victory will take their tally to 16 points, and in case, the RCB vs GT match gets washed out, the five-time winners will qualify for the playoffs.

However, if SRH wins the encounter, then, MI will be eliminated irrespective of what happens in the RCB game.

Meanwhile, CSK have all but confirmed a top-2 finish courtesy of their dominating performance against DC in the ongoing match.

At the time of writing, DC were reeling at 69/3 in the 10th over in their run-chase of 224.

If CSK wins the game by a big margin, then their NRR will receive a major boost, which will make them a certainty for a top-2 finish irrespective of what happens between LSG and KKR.
