As announced by Rajasthan's captain Sanju Samson, the Royals and Indian star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin sustained a back injury minutes before the much-anticipated clash against Punjab Kings at Dharmsala on Friday.

Meanwhile, Ashwin would not be missed that much by his IPL franchise, as they will most probably not qualify for the playoffs, and Adam Zampa will miss the off-spinner's boots in their last league match. However, his injury will be a huge setback for the Rohit Sharma-led Indian Test squad, who are scheduled to play the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023 at the Oval against Australia from June 7-12.

Here what Samson said:

"We have couple of changes. Last minute changes. Ashwin misses out because of a back spasm."

Ashwin, India's second-highest Test wicket-taker, is one of three spinners travelling to London to take on the Number 2 Test-ranked unit.

Ashwin, India's second-highest Test wicket-taker, is one of three spinners travelling to London to take on the Number 2 Test-ranked unit and is touted to be part of the playing party. However, with India already tottering with injuries, the veteran tweaker's injury would put them on the back foot.

Meanwhile, the magnitude of the 36-year-old's injury is still to be determined, but the team management would look to rejig their plans ahead of the all-important clash.
