Bangladesh Key Seamer Confident of Playing World Cup Final in Ahmedabad

One of Bangladesh's leading pacers Taskin Ahmed is raring to make a comeback into international cricket, after an injury layoff. Ahmed, who starred for Bangladesh in home series against Ireland in March, has since been nursing a side strain, and missed the nation's three One-Day International (ODI) series against Ireland in England, which the visitors won 2-0.

Ahmed, who is mainly a white-ball specialist, in a recent interview with Daily Star, spoke about his plans for the ICC World Cup 2023 which is due in India later this year. 

The 28-year-old has played 57 ODIs, 52 T20Is, and 12 Tests picking as many as 152 wickets, combined.

The lanky-bowler did not dwell much into his preparation for the marquee event, but did speak about his dream to play in the final of the global event in October-November, and challenges of playing in Indian conditions.


Here's what Ahmed said

"I am not going to share about my world cup plan at the moment but I will tell once it's the right time. But the main target is to play the final of the World Cup if the almighty keeps us healthy."

"I have played a T20 World Cup and a Test match in India. India has always got sporting wickets; however, there are few grounds which is batting friendly so its going to be challenging for the pacers. But at the same time the bowling unit we have if we can execute properly we will be able to give a tough fight against any team."

Ahmed further added that Bangladesh bowlers can do much better than what they achieved in the Ireland series, where the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam were in action.


Bangladesh have gained direct qualification for the main event of the World Cup, having secured third place in the World Cup Super League standings with 15 wins, eight losses, and one no-result.
