IPL 2023: Brilliant Pooran Helps LSG Knock Out SRH With A Powerpacked Cameo

SunRisers Hyderabad: 182/6 in 20 overs [Henrich Klaasen 47 (29), Abdul Samad 37 (25); Krunal Pandya 2/24 (4), Yash Thakur 1/28 (4)] lost to Lucknow Super Giants: 185/3 in 19.2 overs [Prerak Mankad 64* (45), Nicholas Pooran 44* (13), Marcus Stoinis 40 (25); Mayank Markande 1/39 (3), Bhuvneshwar Kumar 0/30 (4)]

A whirlwind cameo from Nicholas Pooran (44* off 13) and equally brilliant contributions from Prerak Mankad (64* off 45) and Marcus Stoinis (40 off 25) propelled the Lucknow SuperGiants to an unlikely 7-wicket win against hosts SunRisers Hyderabad on Saturday evening.

Chasing 183, the SuperGiants looked nowhere close to reaching their destination for the first 14 overs of their innings.

At the end of 14 overs, LSG were 103/2, with Kyle Mayers (2 off 14) and Quinton de Kock (29 off 19) back in the hut.

In the next over, Prerak Mankad breached the 50-mark before Stoinis smashed a six off Bhuvneshwar Kumar. But, they could still only manage 11 runs from the over.

It is at this point that SRH skipper Aiden Markram decided to be funky by bringing SLA Abhishek Sharma in the attack.

Sharma had previously bowled 2 tight overs for 11 runs, but introducing him against a guy like Stoinis at the death was always going to be a risky move.

It proved to be a game-changer for LSG as Stoinis hammered Sharma for consecutive sixes before holing out at long-off in a bid for a hat-trick. However, it didn't matter as Nicholas Pooran fulfilled his wish by smoking the left-arm orthodox for 3 consecutive sixes.

Suddenly, the equation got reduced to 38 off 24, and with Pooran in such destructive form, the result became a forgone conclusion.

Pooran and Mankad proceeded to hammer the likes of Natarajan and Kumar in the next two overs before the former finished it off in style by glancing Fazalhaq Farooqi for a boundary past fine-leg.

Klaasen and Samad's knocks powered SRH to 182

Earlier, SRH rode on a brilliant knock from the ever-consistent Henrich Klaasen (47 off 29) and final overs flourish from Abdul Samad (37* off 25) to post 182/6 in 20 overs.

Once again the problem for SunRisers is that none of their batsmen converted their start into a substantial score.

They lost the in-form Abhishek Sharma cheaply courtesy of Yudhvir Singh, but Anmolpreet Singh (36 off 27) and Rahul Tripathi (20 off 13) ensured that the home side got past the 50-run mark in the powerplay.

But, again, as the partnership was flourishing, Yash Thakur and then Amit Mishra dismissed the duo in quick succession, forcing SRH to rebuild again.

Markram (28 off 20) and Klaasen did the repair job, but when it was the time to launch, they both fell in succession to Krunal Pandya and Avesh Khan respectively.

However, a final flourish from Samad ensured that they were able to post 182 in 20 overs, but unfortunately, it didn't prove to be enough in the end.
