Whenever MS Dhoni is in action, records are destined to fall, and he lived up to this reputation once again during his batting innings against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, May 10 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk.
Coming to bat at No.8, he played a quickfire knock of 20 runs off just nine deliveries, hitting two sixes and a boundary in the process. With this innings, he crossed the 4500-run mark for CSK, becoming just the second player from the team after Suresh Raina to achieve this feat.
It's worth mentioning that MS Dhoni reached this landmark in his 216th appearance for the Super Kings in the lucrative league, while his former teammate, Suresh Raina took just 176 matches to score 4,687 runs in the competition.
Apart from these two, no other player has managed to touch even the 3000-run mark for Chennai Super Kings. The third-highest run-scorer on the list is Faf du Plessis with 2721 runs, who used to play for them in the past and is now the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore.
MS Dhoni's strike rate this season is currently above 200, which is a testament to his ability to finish games. Although he has not scored many runs batting lower down the order, he always tries to hit as many boundaries as possible, making a valuable contribution to the team's success.
Chennai Super Kings have had a good run under the leadership of MS Dhoni this year, winning seven of their 12 matches in the tournament so far. They have lost only four matches, and one was abandoned due to rain. They are currently in second place on the points table, and their recent win over Delhi Capitals has brought them closer to securing a spot in the playoffs.
