Suryakumar Yadav soared to his IPL-best 83 in a crunch run-chase against RCB in match number 54 of the ongoing 2023 season. The Mumbai Indians veteran employed enterprising stroke-play in a must-win game, clubbing seven boundaries and six towering sixes on a high-scoring evening at Wankhede.

Sharing a 140-run blazing stand with Nehal Wadhera off just 64 balls, Yadav was adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for his efforts.

After Mumbai Indians’ rampaging run-chase against a hapless RCB attack, the senior Indian cricketer spoke about the importance of the win and revealed the game-plan behind his thunderous knock.

Suryakumar Yadav says win much needed for the team

Suryakumar Yadav smoked 83 from just 35 balls to fuel Mumbai Indians to a six-wicket win over RCB. The victory lifted them five spots from eighth to number three on the IPL 2023 points table, just in time to reach the playoffs reckoning alongside CSK and defending champions Gujarat Titans.

After the match, Yadav emphasised the importance of the win and how much it meant to the team. He also revealed his initial gameplan while partnering up with teammate Nehal Wadhera in a daunting run-chase.

“Much needed win from team's point of view. I am very happy to win a home game like this. I mean they come up with a plan. They tried to make me hit to the bigger part. Take the pace off and bowl slow. I said Nehal let's hit it hard and hit it into the gaps and run hard,”

The legendary batter further spoke about his nets training sessions and how he does not do anything different while batting at the crease.

“Your practice has to be the same what you intend to do in matches. I know where my runs are. We have open net sessions. I know my game. I don't do anything different.”

Suryakumar Yadav will now turn up for the Mumbai Indians in their subsequent fixture, i.e., another home game against table-toppers Gujarat Titans on May 12.
