In yet another nail-biting finish, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) prevailed over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) by five wickets last evening, to win themselves crucial two points. However, amidst all the celebrations for KKR, skipper Nitish Rana has been fined for slow overrate as per the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct.

Rana will be docked INR 12 lakhs from his match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate against Punjab last evening at Eden Gardens.

The IPL media advisory stated that because this was KKR's first offence as a team, the fine has been kept at a minimum. Chasing 180 to win, contributions from Rana, Andre Russell, and Rinku Singh helped the hosts clinch the match on the final ball of the match, and move fifth in the IPL 2023 points table.

Here's what IPL release said

"Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rana was fined Rs. 12 lakh."

Rana in his first season as captain, has been their most consistent batter as well, slamming 326 runs from 11 matches, with two fifties. Only Singh (337) is ahead of Rana in terms of runs scored.

KKR play the Rajasthan Royals on Thursday in their second-last home game.
