In a significant development, young keeper-batter Ishan Kishan has replaced KL Rahul in the Indian squad for the World Test Championship final. Added to that, BCCI has named three standby players- Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar and Suryakumar Yadav- to join the national Test squad for the ultimate battle against Australia at the Oval.

Notably, KL Rahul was the first-choice player the feature in the Indian squad for the WTC final. However, unfortunately, he was ruled out of the game after sustaining a thigh injury during an IPL game. His absence could adversely affect Team India's campaign, as he performed superbly when the team toured England last time.

Meanwhile, Ishan's inclusion was on the cards, as he was the lone keeper-batter available, with Rishabh Pant recovering from injury. The stylish southpaw has amassed 2985 runs, including six tons, at a healthy average of 38.76 in 48 First-Class appearances.

On the other hand, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar and Suryakumar Yadav will remain with the squad and may be drafted into the playing XI only if any of the first-choice players develops an injury in the eleventh hour.

While the inclusion of Gaikwad and Kumar is understandable, the Indian management seems adamant on developing him into a three-format player.

The WTC final will be played between India and Australia from June 7 to 11 at the Oval in England.
