In a major setback for the Mumbai Indians, Tilak Varma has been ruled out of today's  IPL match against the Chennai Super Kings.

The southpaw has been ruled out due to a niggle and has been replaced by South Africa's Tristan Stubbs in the playing XI.

Varma has been MI's best batter in the IPL tournament so far. The 20-year-old has racked up 274 runs in 9 matches, and has scored them at 158.38. Most importantly, Varma has shown a calm and composed nature and his absence is already felt in the Mumbai Indians camp.

This is what Rohit said on Tilak Varma at the toss

"Yeah, going pretty well. We had a couple of good games and now hopefully we continue the momentum. Yeah, there are a few places where we need to improve and have been addressed in the meeting as well.

It's been difficult to fit in the right players and that is the nature of the tournament. We know the strengths of the players and know where they can fit in. We picked the team based on the conditions. We have made two changes. Tilak Varma was injured and Tristan Stubbs comes in."

Talking about the match, Mumbai Indians are tottering at 34 for 3 inside 6 overs. They have already lost the key wickets of Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and Cameron Green. Rohit etched an unwanted record on his name - when he registered the most number of ducks (16) by a player in IPL history.
