Virat Kohli Appeals to BCCI to Review Punishment for Altercation with Gautam Gambhir

The former captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Virat Kohli, has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons lately. Kohli was involved in a heated altercation with Gautam Gambhir, the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants, during their match on Monday, May 1st.

It all began with a heated exchange between Virat Kohli and Naveen Ul Haq, the pacer for Lucknow Supergiants. Both of them were clearly agitated with each other on the field, and the argument spilled over into the post-match. 

Gautam Gambhir, who was visibly angry with all the on-field drama, also ended up having a heated exchange with Kohli. The situation escalated quickly, and umpires, along with the players from both teams, including injured KL Rahul had to intervene to separate the two players. 

The incident has garnered a lot of attention across the nation and quickly became the topic of conversation. In the latest reports, it's been suggested that Virat Kohli has reached out to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to give his side of the story. 

For the uninitiated, both Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were fined 100 per cent of their match fees following their behaviour during the match. The former RCB captain was therefore required to pay around INR 1.25 crore. 

However, now as per a report of Dainik Jagran, Virat Kohli has explained his side of the story to the BCCI and is reportedly unhappy with the severity of the penalty he was given. However, it seems unlikely that the BCCI will overturn the punishment, regardless of his attempts to clear his name. 

Notably, the policy of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise dictates that any fines resulting from on-field penalties will be paid by the franchise itself, meaning that Virat Kohli will not be required to bear the punishment. 

Speaking of the match itself, it was a moment of redemption for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had suffered a previous loss to the Lucknow Super Giants in the tournament. They managed to beat them by 18 runs on their home ground.

However, the match will be remembered for the heated exchanges between Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir, and Naveen Ul Haq that took place during the game. The Faf du Plessis-led side will next lock horns with Delhi Capitals on Saturday, May 6 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.
