The public fallout between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir has rocked the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 this whole week. Both players got into an ugly spat post the encounter between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, where the Faf du Plessis-led side prevailed by 18 runs.

Despite being fined under IPL's Code of Conduct, several former players like Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag have demanded stricter action against players, who disturb the sanity of the game, even going to the extent of banning them. Former India player Manoj Tiwary echoed similar views but added that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should intervene and identify the root cause of their tussle.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, the former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player, who shared the dressing room with Gambhir stated that the opener should be recognised for his contribution to India's memorable wins rather than just his on-field spats.

Here's what Tiwary said

"BCCI should step in. This is not a pleasant sight, especially when you are an ambassador of the game, you shouldn't do such things. IPL is one of the most popular tournaments in the world, a lot of people watch it, especially youngsters. A lot of young people want to become like Virat Kohli. So, it is important to find the root cause of clashes like these. Healthy competition is good for the sport but not incidents like these.

People mostly will remember Gambhir for his aggression, that will be the first thing that will come to their mind. They will forget that he has played a major role in India winning two World Cups. This should not happen. This is not the right example to set,"

Gambhir was India's top-run-getter in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and highest run-scorer in the final of the ICC World Cup 2011, where India came out victorious.

LSG will be in action on Sunday against Gujarat Titans, while RCB will take on Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
