The ICC Cricket Word Cup is expected to be held in India later this year. The tournament is scheduled to take place sometime between October and November. As the World Cup preparations get underway, there is a growing amount of speculation around the high voltage game between India and Pakistan which would be played for the first time on home soil since 2016. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad emerged as the prime venue to host the blockbuster match.

The BCCI has intended that the Ahmedabad cricket stadium will be chosen as the go to venue for this epic clash. The stadium has an enormous seating capacity of over 100,000 spectators which can accommodate a colossal number of fans traveling from within India and from neighbouring Pakistan.

The Indian board is yet to make an official announcement on the World Cup fixtures and schedule. However, the cash rich board has indicated that details regarding the upcoming World Cup tournament will be disclosed upon the conclusion of the 16th IPL edition.

As of now, it is learnt that the following locations have been shortlisted to host the World Cup matches: Nagpur, Bengaluru, Trivandrum, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Rajkot, Indore, Bengaluru and Dharamshala. Out of these venues, India will play two matches in Ahmedabad provided if they make it to the final.

Furthermore, BCCI sources have also confirmed that the board has been in consultation with the home side to learn more about their pitch preferences. The Indian team management has expressed their desire to play in venues that aid the slow bowlers in a bid to maximise their home advantage.

“The Indian team has performed well on slow tracks in the past few years at home. So the team management had requested that whenever the schedule is being prepared the Indian team should face top teams on slow pitches. They wanted to have a home advantage.”

It is learnt that Pakistan could end up playing most of their matches in Bangalore and Chennai due to security reasons. But the ongoing tug of war between PCB and BCCI over Asia Cup fixture has casted clouds of doubts over Pakistan team's participation in this year's World Cup in India.
