The entire cricketing world witnessed an ugly scene after the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) encounter on Monday night, where Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir got involved in a verbal spat. While both players received fines, which saw their match fees get deducted 100 percent as per the IPL Code of Conduct.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar believes stricter action is needed against players involved in such incidents. Speaking to Star Sports, the opener stated that these fines do not matter to players like Kohli and Gambhir, who earn way more than that, and that the authorities should consider banning as a method as well.

The 73-year-old expected that such an incident does not take place again, especially between players of high calibre.

Here's what Gavaskar said

"They should ensure that this is not repeated. You are hoping that this is not repeated because it's such a stiff fine, such a stiff punishment. You want to play it hard, play it competitively. During the time that we played, there was a bit of banter, but there was none of this aggression that we see now.

So, my point, do something which will make sure, these things don't happen again. If it has to you know, like it happened with Harbhajan and Sreesanth 10 years ago, that you have to ask them to maybe step aside for a couple of matches. Make sure you do something that ensures that these things don't happen and also something that will hurt the team. That's a stiff one,"

Apart from Kohli and Gambhir, LSG pacer Naveen-ul-Haq was fined 50 percent of his match fees following his exchange with the RC batter during and post the match.
