Legendary former Indian captain MS Dhoni has taken Chennai Super Kings to unprecedented heights, leading them to four IPL titles since 2008. However, as everybody knows, the talisman is in the twilight of his career and could hang up his boots any time soon.

Therefore, the talks regarding Dhoni's captaincy successor takes the centre stage every season and this IPL is no different either. While fans and experts continue to propose several names, legendary Pakistani seamer Wasim Akram has rooted for Ajinkya Rahane to fill Dhoni's shoes going forward.

As quoted by News18 Cricket Next, Akram reckoned that the franchise should appoint an Indian player, preferably Rahane, as the skipper of the side, considering his stupendous recent form and leadership attributes.

"I think Chennai won’t get a better option than Rahane, as he is a local player and has become consistent. As we have seen, local players are more successful in franchise tournaments,

"Foreign players are not capable of leading since they cannot even recall the names of their teammates. Rahane will therefore make a great captain for Chennai if Dhoni decides he has had enough."

Rahane has enjoyed stellar success in the IPL 2023, amassing 224 runs at a fantastic average of 44.80 and a blistering strike rate of 189.83.

After remaining dormant for several years, the stylish Mumbaikar has finally rejuvenated his IPL career through some outrageous knocks against formidable bowling attacks this season.

Meanwhile, speaking of CSK, the MS Dhoni-led outfit is placed fourth with five wins in nine outings. They will take on Lucknow Super Giants in the 46th group-stage game of the tournament on May 3.
