Chennai Super Kings' opening pair, Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad continued their good work in the ongoing Indian Premier League and have taken Punjab Kings' bowlers to the cleaners.
MS Dhoni won the toss and did the right thing by electing to bat first on a dry track that will assist the spinners. It is fair to say that the CSK openers repaid the faith and gave a flying start.
Conway started the carnage with back-to-back boundaries to Kagiso Rabada and Ruturaj soon joined the party as the boundary floodgates opened.
Gaikwad targeted Sam Curran in the 6th over and smashed him for three boundaries to end the power-play on a high.
Skipper Dhawan brought Rahul Chahar into the attack, but that had little to no effect as Conway used his feet to counter the spin and never allowed the run-rate to slip.
In a blink of an eye, Conway entered into the 40s, with exceptional stroke-play, but Gaikwad was sent back by Sikandar Raza in the 10th over of the match. Gaikwad stepped down the track to negate the spin, but the ball turned away to beat the outside-edge and the keeper dislodged the bails in time.
At the end of the 10th over, CSK are 90 for 1, with Shivam Dube having joined Conway, who is batting at 45.
