On Sunday, Chennai Super Kings will cross swords against Punjab Kings in the 41st group-stage fixture of the ongoing Indian Premier League season. The game is scheduled at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Speaking of CSK, the MS Dhoni-led outfit occupy the fourth position in the points table with ten points, winning five of their eight games. After securing three successive victories, the Super Kings incurred a 32-run defeat to Rajasthan Royals, who defeated them for the second time in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings are placed sixth in the standings with four victories in eight appearances. After having a great start to their IPL 2023 campaign, the Kings failed to sustain the momentum, suffering four defeats in last six outings. So, they would be desperate to be a bit more consistent and get back on the winning track.

But how will the surface at the MA Chidambaram stadium behave?

MA Chidambaram Stadium: Pitch Report

The surface at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai has traditionally been spin-friendly, with its red soil being conducive for the bowlers. However, the recently prepared deck has seen batters thrive more than they used to. The first match at the venue witnessed both teams breaching the 200-run mark, while almost 350 runs were scored in the second match.

However, the third game at the venue was a low-scoring one, with CSK chasing 135-run total with eight balls to spare.

So, if the game is played on a used track, we might see batters struggling to get going. However, if a fresh surface is dished out, we could witness a high-scoring thriller. In either case, the spinners from both sides will get some assistance throughout the day.
