Babar Azam achieved the record of becoming the second fastest Asian batter to amass 12,000 runs in international cricket. Interestingly, he just falls behind the record of India's Virat Kohli.

Babar achieved the record during Pakistan's ODI game against New Zealand on April 27. The Pakistan captain went past the milestone in his 277th international innings, while Kohli did this in just one innings less (276).

Both Kohli and Babar, fall behind England's Joe Root, who has crossed the 12,000 run-mark in 275 innings. The record is being held by the West Indian great, Vivian Richards, who achieved the milestone in just 255 innings.

Babar holds the prestigious record of the fastest Asian batter to reach 10,000 and 11,000 runs in international cricket.

Talking about the first ODI between Pakistan and New Zealand, the Babar Azam led side won the match by 5-wickets. Chasing a tricky 289, Pakistan lost just 5 wickets, and won the game rather comfortably, courtesy a stellar hundred from Fakhar Zaman.
