Why is MS Dhoni Batting Lower Down The Order in IPL 2023? DJ Bravo Reveals

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling coach Dwayne Bravo has shed light on MS Dhoni's decision to bat lower the order in IPL 2023, stating that the skipper is content with playing the finishing role in giving other batters more opportunities at the crease.

Despite typically batting at No. 5 in earlier seasons, Dhoni has not batted higher than No. 7 this season, with the likes of Shivam Dube, Ajinkya Rahane, and Ravindra Jadeja enjoying brilliant form. As a result, the 41-year-old has not had many deliveries to face in most of the matches.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of CSK's clash with the Rajasthan Royals, Bravo explained that Dhoni has willingly taken the responsibility of batting lower down the order to ensure that other players such as Jadeja, Ambati Rayudu, and Dube get enough chances to bat.

The former CSK star further explained that Dhoni is content with playing the finishing role as everyone else is batting higher up the order.

"That is the position he has to bat. Everyone is batting higher than him and he takes that responsibility and ownership upon himself to bat lower down the order because the likes of Jadeja, Rayudu, and Dube, he wants to give these guys as many opportunities as possible. He is happy to just play the finishing role," said Bravo.

The CSK captain's only notable performance this season came against the Rajasthan Royals, where he scored an unbeaten 32 off 17 balls, including three sixes. However, his impressive knock was not enough to secure a victory for the Super Kings as they lost the game by three runs.

The Men in Yellow will have an opportunity to redeem themselves when they take on Rajasthan Royals in an away fixture at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday, April 27.
