Rohit Sharma has managed just 181 runs in IPL 2023 [Source: Twitter]
Mumbai Indians' campaign in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has been quite rocky, with injuries to players and a lack of form for key batters, which has resulted in the franchise languishing in eighth position midway into the tournament.
Their main concern has been their opening partnership, with Ishan Kishan struggling to score runs and skipper Rohit Sharma trying to anchor the innings, which is unlike him.
In seven matches this season, Sharma has scored 181 runs, well below his standards. In their last match against Gujarat Titans, Sharma got out in a bid to up the ante while chasing 208 runs after a timid start to their innings.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra, speaking on his YouTube channel, decoded Sharma's dismissal pattern and said:
“Hardik Pandya came and dismissed his opposite number. Rohit Sharma was trying to do something different and got out. Rohit Sharma is selling himself short. It is a concurrent theme that is happening repeatedly.
We say that he can score a lot of runs but gets out. When he gets out like that while trying to make room, you feel he is a much better player than that."
Sharma and Co. will look to come to their winning ways when they take on the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Wankhede on Sunday, with their star bowler Jofra Archer being available to them after missing the GT encounter.
