'Take a Break From IPL....': Sunil Gavaskar's Advice to Rohit Sharma Ahead of WTC Final

With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announcing India's 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC WTC Final against Australia, all focus has shifted from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 to the marquee event.

India, who are playing their second consecutive WTC Final, will be led by Rohit Sharma, who is currently leading the Mumbai Indians in IPL 16. Mumbai lost their last game against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday and are placed seventh in the points table with six points.

Keeping in mind the WTC Final, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has suggested Sharma should take a back seat in the IPL and return rejuvenated for the WTC Final at The Oval in June.

The Indian captain has struggled to get going with the bat this season, having scored just 187 runs in seven matches, which is way below his standards and expectations.

Gavaskar, speaking to Star Sports, further added that MI can only make it to the playoffs via a miracle, and blamed their bowlers for repeating the same mistakes over and over again.

Here's what Gavaskar suggested

"Rohit Sharma should take a break and keep himself fresh for the World Test Championship. Come back again for the last few matches, but right now take a breather himself. He is looking slightly preoccupied, maybe he is thinking about the WTC. I think he needs a little bit of a break,"

Mumbai takes on the visiting Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday at Wankhede.
