Apart from injuries, the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has been about captains being fined for slow over-rate. Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper David Warner has been fined INR 12 Lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday.

Led by Warner, DC managed to defend a subpar score of 144, where SRH missed the finish line by just seven runs. Pacer Mukesh Kumar ensured Hyderabad failed to achieve 13 runs in the final over.

As per IPL rules and regulations, one T20 match should end in under three and a half hours.

As stated by IPL Media Advisory, Warner is being fined the minimum amount because this was Delhi's first offence.

Here's what IPL stated

"Delhi Capitals captain David Warner has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium, Hyderabad. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Warner was fined Rs. 12 lakh."

DC's win over SRH was their second in the IPL 2023, having lost five matches. Warner took over from Rishabh Pant as captain after the latter was ruled out of the tournament due to an unfortunate accident last December.
