The pressure of playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is itself immense and quite nerve-wracking. Punjab Kings (PBKS) spent big bucks during the IPL 2023 Auction and brought back all-rounder Sam Curran for a whopping INR 18 crore, the costliest-ever buy in the tournament.

Curran, who is leading PBKS in the absence of regular skipper Shikhar Dhawan, has one win and one loss this season as a leader, with his latest defeat coming against the Royal Challengers Bangalore last evening by 24 runs.

Chasing 175 to win, Punjab were reduced to 43 for 4 in the powerplay, with Curran and Prabhsimran Singh doing the consolidation work thereafter. The duo added 33 runs before Curran's lazy running cost him his wicket.

Jitesh Sharma did take the match close, scoring a 27-ball 41, but PBKS folded for 150 with 10 balls to spare.

Former PBKS player and coach Virender Sehwag took a dig at Curran for a sloppy run after the match, saying that money cannot make up for lack of experience.

Talking to Cricbuzz, the former India opener asserted that the England all-rounder being the skipper should have stayed till the end and finished the match for his franchise.

Here's what Sehwag said

“He's an international player. But you can't buy experience with 18 crore. It only comes when you play, when your hair turn white as you play under the hot sun. We think just because he was bought for 18 crore, he will win you matches. But he doesn't have that experience yet. It was poor running, there was no need for that. You're captain, you should've stayed, tried to take it to the final overs. But again, the lack of experience cost him,”

Curran's first match as Kings' captain came against Lucknow Super Giants, where his team chased down 160 runs in the final over.PBKS travels to Mumbai to meet Rohit Sharma and Co. on Saturday.
