DC Management Rolls The Dice By Summoning Two Unsold Players For IPL Trials

Delhi Capitals have found themselves amid a problematic situation, beset with five successive defeats in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. In an effort to address their lacklustre form, the team's management has summoned two uncapped players, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyam Garg, for a trial.

The dismal performances of young Indian batters in the current season have spurred the Delhi Capitals to contemplate a reshuffle of their top order against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Feroz Shah Kotla in a desperate attempt to stem the tide of their losing streak.

Despite the team already operating at maximum squad strength, the Delhi Capitals are contemplating whether to replace an existing player with either Easwaran or Garg. However, according to a trusted source, both players are currently undergoing a trial, and no decision has been reached thus far.

"The maximum squad strength is 25 and DC has maximum squad strength. Now whether they would replace someone isn't known. As of now, both are on trial," an IPL source told PTI.

The call-up of Easwaran and Garg, however, is not without its own set of complications. Despite being the India A 'Test' captain, the Bengal-based cricketer has only featured in a mere 27 T20 domestic games throughout his decade-long career. Moreover, with an unremarkable strike rate of 121, his credentials as an opener are suspect.

On the other hand, Garg, who previously served as the captain of the India U19 team and has played in two IPL seasons, has a marginally better record than Easwaran, with a dismal average of 17 and a modest strike rate of 115 in 44 T20 matches. Nonetheless, his release by SRH, coupled with his lacklustre numbers, hardly inspires confidence.

Delhi Capitals' current predicament is a proverbial thorn in their side, and the inclusion of Easwaran and Garg, with their limited experience and questionable performances, is a high-risk gamble that may backfire. Nonetheless, the team's management is steadfast in their resolve to try all possible options to reverse their losing fortunes.
