In a high-scoring encounter, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) prevailed over hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by eight runs last evening in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Chasing 227 to win, RCB, after a disastrous start, were helped by Glenn Maxwell and skipper Faf du Plessis' mammoth 126-run stand.

Both batters slammed their respective fifties but got out at crucial junctures. Maxwell fell to Maheesh Theekshana for a quick-fire 76 off 36, while du Plessis became Moeen Ali's only victim after making 62 off 33, in back-to-back overs, with RCB still needing 68 runs to win.

Speaking in the post-match conference, Maxwell conceded that either he or du Plessis should have taken RCB past the finish line and stayed on till the very end.

Here's what Maxwell said

A bit disappointed but I think we did so well to get so close and we were in the position to win the game. One of us should have been there a little bit longer, maybe had taken it deeper. We were trying to go as hard as possible to keep the run rate under 10."

"Once the ball started get softer, it started to hold a little bit, we saw how Jadeja get one past Dinesh Karthik back in the end."

Maxwell did maintain that irrespective of match's result, the encounter was pretty exciting.

Du Plessis is the leading run-getter in IPL 2023 with 259 runs, while Maxwell is 12th on the list with 176. Former RCB captain Virat Kohli is sixth with 220 runs.

RCB travel to Mohali next to meet the Punjab Kings on Thursday.
