Mumbai have won back-to-back matches! A comfortable 5-wicket win, led by Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma. This will give them loads of confidence heading into the tournament. A wonderful tribute to all the girls who have come today to watch their side. Ishan Kishan started the carnage, and good to see SKY back in form as he took on the bowlers with ease. Tim David provides the finishing touches as MI made a mockery of the total.

A moment of happiness for KKR!

Back of a length, outside the off. Wadhera tries to run it down to third man, but gets the faintest of nicks. The umpire ignored the caught behind shout, but KKR take the DRS, and the ultra-edge shows there was a nick as the ball passes the bat.

Lord Shardul comes into the attack and Lord Shardul strikes!

Suryakumar misses out on a well deserving fifty, but this knock will give him loads of confidence. Shardul dugs it short as SKY tries to be cheeky and run it past the keeper. But the extra bounce does the trick with the ball taking the outside-edge safe into the hands of the keeper.

Watch Ishan Kishan's blazing knock

DG: 21 needed off 28. This should be a cakewalk for Mumbai Indians...

Tilak Varma departs after a fine hand! Mumbai lose their third wicket

Perhaps Tilak Varma was playing for the googly, since Suyash is known for it. However, this time it was a flatter leg-break as Tilak trying to play it on the off side, chops it onto the stumps. A massive breakthrough in the context of the game.

SKYYYYY IS BACKKKKK!

He is brilliant, he is absolutely brilliant. Plays his trade-mark pick-up shot to rattle Andre Russell. Wrist work comes into play as he flicks the short of a length ball over deep backward square boundary.

DG: Two sixes from SKY and when he's playing freely, there is no one better than Suryakumar Yadav. Lockie Ferguson has a lot to ponder after that dismal over.

DG: SKY is looking scratchy at the moment. Normally you'll see those flamboyant shots and aggression right from the word go. But the kind of form SKY is at the moment, the ideal thing is to bind some time.

That is the end of Ishan Kishan's breath-taking knock. A massive wicket by Varun Chakravarthy in the context of the game

The previous ball was hit for a maximum and Kishan tried for another glory shot. Chakravarthy bowled it straight as Kishan misses the attempted slog. The ball crashes onto the stumps. MI still need 99. Is there a twist in the game?

Statement made by Ishan Kishan! A terrific fifty to silence the critics

It has been a roller-coaster ride for Ishan Kishan, but he has finally arrived at the IPL 2023. A 21-ball fifty and there's plenty more to come....

That is a blinder from Umesh Yadav to dismiss Rohit Sharma! Watch the catch and repeat it again and again

Suyash tosses it up outside the off and Rohit with a nothing shot. He checks it at the last moment and pushes it with hard hands. Umesh at mid off stretches to his left and plucks a brilliant catch out of nowhere. Rohit looks stunned and so are we.

Ishan Kishan is breathing fire 🔥

When in full flow, he is a dangerous, dangerous batter. And this time he is taking on arguably one of the best T20 spinners in Sunil Narine. 22 off Narine's over. 6, 6, 4 to end the over.

Sunil Narine comes into the attack...

DG: MI's opening batters have started off with flying colours. They have targeted Umesh Yadav. First, Rohit hit him with a boundary, and then Ishan Kishan with a lovely swing of the bat to dispatch the ball over long on.

First boundary of the innings! Ishan Kishan climbed into it!

Full, swinging away. Not a good delivery by Shardul Thakur. Ishan sits down on his knee and smashes it through the covers. That went like a tracer bullet..

DG: It's a stiff target, but Mumbai do have the firepower in the batting lineup to chase this down. It'll be interesting to see how Rohit goes about his business.

DG: The second innings is just about to start. Rohit Sharma is ready to go and is the impact player. Will have to wait and see who has been replaced.

It has been confirmed, Riley Meredith has been substituted.

DG: That's the end of the KKR innings. An innings dominated by just one man - Venkatesh Iyer. He scored his maiden IPL century as KKR have posted 185 on the board. At one stage, it looked as if they'll cross the 200-run mark, but some tight bowling towards the slog overs helped MI pulled things back. Still a decent total on a belter of a track.

Not the day for Lord Rinku. Maybe he just loves to play in the second innings!

He was not his usual self today and lacked the power game. Good length ball as Rinku had to go for the big shot. No connection whatsoever as the man at long on takes the catch. A rare off day for the champion KKR batter. 6 down for KKR.

DG: 2 overs left, 160 on the board. KKR have lost the plot in the last 5 overs. Mumbai have pulled things back brilliantly.

Venkatesh Iyer departs after a magnificent knock!

Perhaps he tried to be cheeky and threw his wicket away. A low full toss by Meredith as Iyer tries to be cheeky and goes for the reverse scoop. There was a fielder at short third who waited for the ball and takes the simplest of catch.

DG: And finally, finally Venkatesh Iyer reaches his first IPL hundred. A glorious hundred and believe it or not, it's the first hundred by a KKR player, since Brendon McCullum in the inaugural match of IPL. A long wait of 15 years.

DG: Venkatesh Iyer is just 5 runs away from his maiden IPL ton. What a moment it would be for the youngster. In front of a packed Wankhede crowd. Can he reach the landmark?

One lord goes, another one walks in. Rinku Singh has arrrrriveeed!

Lord Shardul has to walk back! A smart catch by Tilak Varma!

Tossed up ball by Hrithik Shokeen as Shardul trying to up the ante goes for the slog sweep. He doesn't get the desired connection and Tilak takes a sharp catch. He dives forward at deep mid wicket and plucks it inches above the ground.

DG: The ball goes higher, Iyer's on fire. He is dealing in sixes at the moment. That's his 8th six of the match. Short of a length on the body and he pummels it over deep backward square region.

DG: And that's how quickly Venkatesh Iyer has moved into the 70s. He is taking a special liking towards Riley Meredith and has hammered him for back-to-back sixes. Interestingly, throughout the innings, no one else has hit a single boundary. It has been a Venky Iyer show thus far....

Heated exchange between Hrithik Shokeen and Nitish Rana

Venkatesh Iyer is fighting a lone battle here! A valiant fifty by the southpaw

He brings up his half-century in 23 deliveries. Striking it at 220. The other batters need to step up and support Venky Iyer.

Ishan Kishan misses a stumping chance!

Shokeen saw Shardul Thakur stepping down as he deliberately bowls it wide of off. Ishan Kishan fails to collect it properly and allows the batter to come back in. How costly will that be?

Raaaana is a goner!!! Moreover, he has an argument with Hrithik Shokeen!

Tossed up ball, Rana steps down the track for a booming slog and gets no connection on it. The ball lobs up high and the fielder at long on takes a safe catch. Seems like Shokeen said a word or two to Rana which fired up the KKR batter as the two had a heated exchange. SKY had two intervene to stop the argument.

DG: Spinners have slowed things down. And that was pretty much expected. Time for a rebuild as Nitish Rana has joined Venkatesh Iyer.

Nitish Rana, the next man in. A slip in place.

Piyush Chawla comes into the attack and Piyush Chawla strikes! Gurbaz back in the hut

Leg-break, outside the off, enticing the batter to go for the big hit. Gurbaz throws the kitchen sink as the outside-edge is safely taken by the man at backward point. Simplest of catch for Jansen and KKR lose their second wicket. A scratchy inning from Gurbaz comes to an end.

16 runs off that Jansen over. Sit back and enjoy, Venky Iyer is off to something special....

DG: Venkatesh Iyer has made his intentions pretty clear. He wants to take advantage of the field restrictions. But will it pay off? Mid on goes back to long on.

DG: Duan Jansen, the debutant comes into the attack. Let's see what he got. One left-arm seamer replaces another left-arm seamer.

Venkatesh Iyer is down in agony. The team doctors have arrived to treat him. He missed an attempted flick as the ball thud him over the right knee.

DG: Suddenly KKR are on the charge. Iyer smacked a six and four to Arjun Tendulkar and then hit a boundary to Cam Green.

Tendulkar gets his maiden IPL cap from Rohit Sharma

DG: Not a bad start at all by Arjun Tendulkar. He is keeping it tight and looks like he belongs on the big stage.

First blood drawn by Cam Green! Jagadeesan departs!

Hrithik Shokeen pulls off a blinder to dismiss the batter. Jagadeesan drives the length ball slightly uppishly and pays the price for it. Shokeen at covers stretches with a dive and takes it inches above the ground. The umpires went upstairs to check if it was a clean catch, and yes, the decision stays with MI.

DG: The bowl is moving a bit, and the MI bowlers will be keen to take advantage of it. A rather sedate start from the Knight Riders.

DG: So far, so good from Arjun. Still a bit nervous, but he looks a solid prospect.

AAAAAND THE PLAYERS HAVE MADE THEIR WAY OUT!

We are ready for the live action. Really interested in seeing how Arjun Tendulkar performs with the ball in hand. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Narayan Jagadeesan are out for KKR. Seems like Arjun Tendulkar will start the proceedings for MI.

DG: 5 minutes left for the start of play. At the toss, Nitish Rana said they are eying a minimum of 180.

This is what transpired at the toss

DG: Yes Arjun, the batting still has the spark, but the bowling looks toothless, especially in the absence of Jofra and Bumrah. Moreover, the lack of quality spinners will hurt them on turning tracks.

Arjun: My friend DG, do you think MI lack the cutting edge this season?

Playing XIs

KKR: Venkatesh Iyer, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Sunil Narine, Nitish Rana (c), Narayan Jagadeesan, Andre Russell, Rinku Singh, Shardul Thakur, Lockie Ferguson, Umesh Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy

MI: Cameron Green, Ishan Kishan (wk), Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Tim David, Nehal Wadhera, Arjun Tendulkar, Hrithik Shokeen, Piyush Chawla, Duan Jansen, Riley Meredith

DG: News coming in from Wankhede, Rohit Sharma is actually one of the impact players. With MI chasing, surely expect Rohit Sharma to open alongside Ishan Kishan.

Toss update

Mumbai Indians have won the toss and surprise, surprise, Suryakumar Yadav has elected to bowl first. Rohit Sharma is out due to stomach infection. Duan Jansen comes into the XI.

5 minutes left for the toss. Toss winning team will ideally like to chase first on this small ground.

DG: Rohit Sharma needs 44 more runs to complete 6,000 runs in IPL. Can he break that record today?

DG: Another high-scoring game awaits us. KKR have won the last three meetings between the two teams, but they haven't beaten MI at Wankhede since 2012.

Pitch Report

Ian Bishop: "The Wankhede is always a lovely place to be at. The last year in IPL, the average score was around the 180 mark, 175 mark, maybe a touch more, touch less. As I stand in the player's pavilion end, you can see some little cracks showing, not big but slightly. There's not much grass here.

It's still a fairly hard pitch. I feel the grass has been shaved, the ball could grip on this surface and could help a bit. I am hoping that in this game bat dominates ball but a little bit of help from the slower end isn't a bad thing."

Breaking: Arjun Tendulkar is marking his run-up. Seems like it is finally time that we'll witness Junior Tendulkar in action.

Venkatesh Iyer is prepared for the MI challenge 🔥

Head to Head battle

Overall, MI and KKR have clashed 31 times, with the former having an upper hand over the latter with a whopping 22-9 margin. However, MI have been abysmal, to say the least, in recent times, which gives KKR a golden opportunity to reduce the deficit.

Recent form of teams

After losing their first two matches comprehensively, Mumbai Indians finally opened their account last Tuesday, handing Delhi Capitals a six-wicket defeat. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders, who stunned Gujarat Titans the other day, courtesy of Rinku Singh's outrageous cameo, were brought back to earth by Sunrisers Hyderabad, who handed them a 23-run defeat. While MI are placed ninth with 2 points, KKR occupy the fifth position in the standings with four points to their name.

The IPL caravan moves to the Western part of India, as hosts Mumbai Indians are set to cross swords against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 22nd match of the ongoing Indian Premier League season. This is Anurag Dasgupta and I will be bringing you all the happenings from this exciting clash at the iconic Wankhede stadium.
