Josh Hazlewood has joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) camp ahead of their home fixture against the Delhi Capitals, set to be played on April 15. The speedster was rested from the entirety of Australia’s Test and ODI tour of India owing to an achilles niggle in his left leg.

Hazlewood’s last appearance in competitive cricket came in Australia’s drawn Test against South Africa earlier this year at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Hazlewood joins RCB camp to fuel speculation of early return

Prior to the launch of IPL 2023, Josh Hazlewood was tipped to miss the first seven matches for RCB in the tournament. The franchise, under Faf du Plessis’ leadership, has played three games so far in the season and is set to play their fourth against the Delhi Capitals at home on April 15.

A day before their clash against the Capitals, the RCB announced the return of Hazlewood into the camp. However, it remains to be seen at what stage of the tournament will the speedster make it into the playing XI for his side.

The Australian veteran made his IPL debut in 2020 for the Chennai Super Kings. He then shifted his base to the RCB in 2022 where he enjoyed his breakthrough season, claiming 20 wickets for his franchise across just 12 games.

The RCB management will be hoping for the 32-year-old to retain his match fitness sooner than expected, considering the team has sustained back-to-back defeats against the KKR and Super Giants respectively.
